NO PREP - 10 MINUTE STAFF MEETING - THE FIRST 5 MINUTES - FREE RESOURCE
Free No-Prep Mini-PD · Slides, run sheet, and teacher handout included
Your teachers do not need another hour-long professional development session. They need ten focused minutes that respect their time and give them something they can use the next morning.
The First 5 Minutes is a ready-to-run staff meeting session built on one piece of research every teacher recognizes the moment they hear it: students decide within the first five minutes of class whether they are going to engage or check out. Before a word about content, your opening has already answered three questions for them — what am I supposed to do, does this teacher know I'm here, and is there a reason I'm here today.
The session takes ten minutes. Teachers rate themselves on three statements, name their weakest pillar out loud to a partner, and write down one specific change to make tomorrow. That's it. No debrief, no share-out, no follow-up committee.
Everything is written for a principal who has not read it before walking into the room.
What's included
Principal Quick Start & Run Sheet (2 pages) — minute-by-minute agenda with word-for-word opening and closing language, facilitation cautions, and shortened and virtual versions
Editable slide deck (4 slides) — PowerPoint and Google Slides, with a school-name placeholder
Teacher handout (1 page) — the three-question opening audit and a written commitment block, print-ready
Ready-to-send follow-up email — copy, paste, send
Optional 5-minute follow-up — one accountability prompt to run two weeks later
Who it's for
Principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches, department chairs, and team leaders who need a staff meeting segment that produces an actual change in classroom practice — without building an agenda, a deck, or a handout from scratch.
Prep required
Print the handout. Open the slides. That's the entire preparation.
